Harold and the Purple Crayon, by Crockett Johnson, is a classic children's book about a young boy and his imagination. Harold's magic purple crayon helps him to bring his imagination to life through his drawings. First, Harold wants to walk in the moonlight, but there's no moon, so he draws the moon. Then, he sees he has nothing to walk on, so he draws a path. Harold then has several adventures before noticing he's sleepy. He then goes looking for his room, and in the end he draws the window to his room, then his bed, and finally he goes to sleep. This book encourages young children to embrace their own creativity...although hopefully they won't use any of their own purple crayons to draw on the walls. :-)
I really enjoyed reading this book, and I am looking forward to reading it to the twins when they are a bit older. I am sure that it will be a favorite of theirs!
