Monopoly
is probably the most classic family game in existence. I think almost every household in America has a copy of this game, but if you don't have one yet you can win one here! This is a fantastic game for teaching the value of a dollar and how to make money by spending wisely. It's also great for helping kids remember about taking turns, playing fairly and being a good winner or loser. But, since there are some small pieces and game play can get complicated, it's only for kids (and adults) ages 8 and up.I'm sure everyone reading this knows how to play Monopoly, so I'm not going to go into it now. But, I will give you a few "extra rules" that you may not know about.
1) Put $500 into the center to serve as free parking. Whenever someone pays the bank for luxury tax, income tax, to get out of jail, or something to do with a Chance or Community Chest card, put that in as well. When someone lands on the free parking space, they get the money in the middle. Don't forget to "refill" free parking with another $500 bill, though! (If you want to really juice things up, put all money paid to the bank in the middle--that includes all payments to buy properties.)
2) (This is an actual rule that's in the book.) If someone lands on a property and decides not to buy it, it goes up to all players for an auction. The person with the highest bid gets the property.
3) If you roll "snake eyes" (that's a 1 on each die), you get one of each type of bill from the bank. (So that's one $1, one $5, one $10, etc.)
4) If you roll "boxcars" (that's a 6 on each die), you get $500 from the bank.
