"Instructions for a Broken Heart" Book Review

About the Book:
"When Jessa catches her boyfriend, Sean, making out with Natalie "the Boob Job" Stone three days before her drama club's departure to Italy, she completely freaks.

Stuck with a front-row view of Sean and Natalie's making out against the backdrop of a country that oozes romance, Jessa promises to follow all of the outrageous instructions in her best friend's care package and open her heart to new experiences.

Enter cute Italian boy stage left.

Jessa had prepared to play the role of humiliated ex-girlfriend, but with Carissa directing her life from afar it's finally time to take a shot at being a star."

About the Author:
"Kim Culbertson technically writes for teenagers, but there are some grown-ups who like her work. She is the author of the award-winning young adult novel Songs for a Teenage Nomad (Sourcebooks Fire, 2010). When she's not writing for teenagers, she's teaching them, and she currently teaches English and creative writing at Forest Charter School. The fact that she's a published author doesn't seem to dazzle her students, who still complain about how much homework she gives them. She lives in the northern California foothills with her husband and daughter and travels as often as she can. Visit her website at www.kimculbertson.com."

My Take:
Instructions for a Broken Heart is such a great book! It really brought me back to my high school years, although I was always a drama wanna-be and never had the chance to go on an Italian "field trip." It's written in such a way that teenagers will really feel right at home in the book.

I love how Carissa's instructions drive the book and really help Jessa to get over her ex quickly, even though Jessa doesn't think it's going to help in the slightest. Jessa's character matures during the trip, and teenage readers may also come to learn the same lessons that Jessa does, but with less drama. The book will leave you feeling good, and I am positive that you will love it as much as I did. It's not just for teenage girls! The plot will hook you right in, wishing that Jessa will find love and get over her ex.
